Live with a Host Family in Brazil

Summer – Brazilian Homestay Program

Brazilian Rain Forest

This short-term homestay program gives students the opportunity to live with a Brazilian family for four, six, or eight weeks, during any time of the year, while gaining first-hand knowledge of the Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language. Although the days are unstructured, students may take Portuguese lessons from a private tutor. Students accompany their host families on all outings and can ask for assistance with planning individual itineraries to meet their particular needs. A visa is required for this program. The neccessary paperwork will be sent to you after host family placement.

Who can apply?
Students 15-18 years old. No previous knowledge of Portuguese is required for this program.

Location
Many students are placed with host families in small provincial town or rural areas. Program participants will not be placed in Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo.

Accommodations
Students stay with a volunteer Brazilian host family that has been carefully selected by our partner organization.

Program Fee

Four weeks $2,000
Six weeks $2,200
Eight weeks $2,500

Fee includes:

  • $500 application fee
  • Round trip airfare between New York and Rio de Janeiro
    Pre-departure orientation in the U.S. and arrival orientation in host community
  • Placement with a Brazilian host family, including full board
    and lodging
  • 24-hour supervision and/or local representative assistance
  • Arrival airport transfer in home community
  • Medical Insurance

Not included

  • Spending money
  • Visa and passport processing fees
  • Domestic roundtrip airfares to/from New York, NY
  • Domestic round trip airfare abroad from arrival city to host family community
  • Brazilian Identification Card (currently about $50)
  • Airport departure taxes
  • Portuguese language tutoring

Credits
School credit is not available.

Deadline
No less than twelve weeks before departure date.
