| Accommodations/Host Families
(where applicable)
Your completed application is sent to our overseas partner, who
helps AYA secure appropriate host families and schools for AYA participants
throughout the country. They also provide you with local support,
guidance and assistance should a problem arise while you are overseas.
Once our partner accepts your application, the process of finding
a host family and high school will begin.
Please be advised that this search and interview process is thorough
and may take weeks or months to complete, so we recommend you apply
early. You can be sure no matter how long this process takes, our
partners abroad will find a good match for you.
Please note: It is not unusual to find host families as late as
one week before departure time.
Host families may be single persons, double placements (more than
one international student living in the home) and other family configurations.
Students will not be able to choose their host family or a specific
region of the country.
If students need to change host families while abroad, the cost
of transportation to and from the new host family will be at the
expense of the student. The overseas partner will make appropriate
reservations, and the student will pay the overseas partner at the
time of purchase.
If you request a non-smoking host family (if applicable) on your
application, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate
this request. This is due to the fact that smoking is very common
outside the U.S.
