| FLEX Hosting Guidelines
We ask that, as a FLEX host family, you assist your FLEX students
in acheiving the goals of the program and encourage them to take
advantage of the unique opportunities made available to them through
the FLEX grant.
Student Support
Your FLEX Local Coordinator is specially trained to supervise students
on the FLEX program and will meet regularly with both you and your
student to ensure that your student is achieving the goals of the
program. Students receive a small monthly stipend to cover some
expenses, and funds are available for students to participate in
activities that will expose them to democracy, volunteerism, free
enterprise and the American way of life.
Volunteerism
FLEX students are required to volunteer a minimum of 5 hours per
month in his/her community or school.
Some suggested ideas are:
- Tutoring and mentoring children
- Reading to the elderly
- Working on fundraisers
- Environmental protection and conservation
- Serving meals to the homeless
- Teaching English to immigrants
